Sudara Stories: Preetha

We love sharing stories of the women who are employed or attending a skills-training program at one of our partner centers in India. The Sudara Stories series highlights a few of these strong, amazing women. Today, we are honored to introduce Preetha.

Preetha’s Story of Hope and Freedom

When Preetha was in the 10th grade, her parents asked her to leave school and work as a housemaid so they could pay the school fees for two of her brothers. Preetha was heartbroken because she didn’t want to work as a domestic help for the rest of her life; she knew there were few options for her if she didn’t finish her schooling.  With the help of her neighbors, though, she heard about the skills-training programs offered at one of Sudara’s partner centers. And for the past year, she has been enrolled in computer skills and tailoring classes. She told the team that she looks forward to graduation and starting her new job in a sportswear factory.

Thank you for investing in and empowering women like Preetha to create a new life for herself. You can read more Sudara Stories here. And, find the Punjammies we named in honor and celebration of Preetha here.
